My name is Julia, I am 23 years old and I live in Germany.
Currently I’m finishing my apprenticeship as a nurse and last summer I decided to do an
international exchange with the Rotary New Generations program in Santos, SP, Brazil to
extend my personal and professional horizon.
During the exchange, I had the opportunity to get to know the country with my host family
and other Rotary exchange participants. In addition, I had the possibility to work in a local
hospital. Through this experience and my short but very intense time in Brazil, I got to know
many new friends and even won a second family.
The exchange was a great chance for me to get to know a different culture and working and
travelling in a beautiful country like Brazil provided once in a lifetime experiences for me.
This not only took my fear to spend a long time in other regions of the world, but even
aroused my desire for further travelling and exploring different cultures.
The program promoted an intensive cultural exchange and encouraged me to further pursue
my personal aims and made me more independent. The multitude of new impressions
together with the close relationship with my host family and other local people made it
possible to experience and perceive the beautiful country of Brazil from a different side that
a vacation could never have provided.
Altogether I can highly recommend an international exchange and the Rotary New
Generations program, because it’s a truly enriching time that enables one to get to know a
new country and culture from a different perspective.
My name is Paulina, I’m 21 years old. I’m from Poland. I’m in the second year of psychology studies. From July to September I took part in Rotary New Generation programm in Rio de Janeiro.
I’ve been there as a volunteer working in the kindergarten and in the school. It helped me developing skills to work with children and I believe it will be very useful experience in my future work. I had opportunity to live in Brazilian family and learn about local customs. Rio de Janeiro is the most amazing city I ever saw. I think going for exchange is always a good decision.
My name is Yasmin, I’m a 22 year old Brazilian lawyer, and I was an exchange student in St. Gallen, Switzerland, through the Rotary New Generations program, for the period of January and February 2012. Being an exchange student was absolutely the best experience of my life. It was really interesting to live in such a different country from my own, a country which showed me not only a different language (or four, in this case), but also a separate culture. It shows how big the world is, and it helps you grow in so many different ways.
Now, four years after this experience, I can surely say that it deeply helped my personal and professional growth, in ways that I haven’t probably fully grasped yet. I am very thankful for Rotary for the opportunity, and I recommend it to anyone who asks.
